Sajjad is a member of the TEDxWaterloo executive team and is responsible for helping the Logistics, Website and Sponsorship team.

He is a student at the University of Waterloo pursuing a degree in Mathematics/Business Administration and is working towards his Certified Management Accountant designation. Sajjad has been passionate about entrepreneurship from an early age. Having been pulled into a pyramid scheme at age 13 proved to be a learning experience but this planted the seeds for his eventual foray into the telecom industry. At age 14, Sajjad started his own independent telecommunications company. His Dubai-based company provided low-cost telephony to underprivileged residents of the Middle East. Later he went on to expand into Europe. He exited the industry in 2008 and plans to jump into his next venture very soon.

Sajjad is passionate about promoting ICT technologies to provide social services. He has had the privilege to work at Grameen Bank where he was part of a team that developed advanced prototypes for e-health , e-education and e-agriculture systems. These models were successfully deployed in rural areas in Asia under the patronage of Dr Mohammed Yunus (Nobel Peace prize winner, 2006).

He has been involved with many student organizations during his time as an undergrad at the University of Waterloo and is excited to be part of the TEDxWateloo team.

Sajjad’s looking forward to February 25th and his favourite TED talk is Dan Ariely’s Are we in control of our own decisions? (Author of Predictably Irrational).

Tareq Ismail is the Website lead and a member of the PR team for TEDx Waterloo.

He is currently pursuing a Mathematics degree at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. His internships have led him to explore different opportunities in the tech industry including Nuance Communications, Research in Motion (maker of the BlackBerry), and Amazon.com. Having started his own design company at an early age, he has always been interested in entrepreneurship. He maintains his design company, Tareq Ismail Designs (http://www.tareqismail.com/) serving clients from around the world. His primary interests revolve around mobile user experience and marketing. His recent experience on the user interface team for the BlackBerry Storm gave him deeper insight into the world of mobile user experience by studying how different users responded to the device.

Tareq is also the co-founder of ProductMuslim (http://www.productmuslim.com/), a blog to share, develop, and conceptualize products that add value to Muslim lives. He is interested in studying how users interact with religiously and culturally centered mobile applications compared to their desktop computer counterparts.
